Puma Generators
Puma generators are available with either manual
or automatic control and a large range of options. Equipment can
also be custom built to individual specifications.
Arrangement
The engine and alternator are close coupled, mounted on a robust
steel fabricated base plate.
Engine
Water cooled, four stroke compression ignition diesel engine
with integral injection, aspiration, filtration starting system
and constant speed governor. Engine instrument panel comprising
oil pressure, water temperature gauges and battery charging ammeter.
Starting
Battery/electric system, with starter motor, charge alternator
and voltage regulator.
Battery
Lead acid type, dry charged with tray and leads.
Alternator
Screen protected, drip proof, salient pole, self-regulating,
brushless type. Class H insulation throughout with Class H temperature
rise.
Regulation
+/- 112% steady state, no load to full load, at any power factor
between unity and 0.8 lagging. Rapid transient response.
Coupling
The alternator is flange mounted to the engine flywheel housing,
forming a rigid arrangement allowing precision alignment to be
maintained. The standard configuration utilises a single bearing
machine which has the alternator drive end flanged and the drive
taken through flexible discs.
Fuel Tank
Each set is provided with a fuel tank which is gantry mounted
over the alternator. Fuel pipework is provided to and from the
tank to the engine fuel pump. It incorporates a filler cap, on/off
tap, breather, fuel level gauge and drain plug.

Testing
All equipment is test run on full load and overload. All control
panel functions are tested.
Painting
All sets are de-greased, painted with etch primer/undercoat and
two top coats in an oil proof enamel. The standard paint specification
is to BS381C Shade 631 Grey), but any colour can be provided
to customers requirements.
Accessories
Each set is supplied with an industrial exhaust silencer, flexible
section and a set of anti-vibration mountings. One set of operating
and maintenance instructions, spares lists, engine and alternator
manuals and circuit diagrams. Further optional equipment is available.
Control Panel
Enclosures are constructed of heavy gauge sheet steel and provided
with front access and bottom cable entry. These can be arranged
for either set mounting or free standing, according to size of
customers requirement.
Panels for the manual start
Models include: voltmeter, ammeter, volt/amps phase selector
switch, current transformers, engine on/off start switch, moulded
case circuit breaker with overload trip, engine protection with
indicating lamps for low oil pressure, high coolant temperature
and engine overspeed.
Panels for auto-mains failure
Include: voltmeter, ammeter, volt/amps phase selector
switch, current transformers, control and monitoring equipment,
3 pole mechanically and electrically interlocked changeover contactors,
engine protection with indicating lamps for low oil pressure,
high coolant temp, engine overspeed, fail to start, overload
and alternator under voltage, battery trickle charger with on/off
indicator lamp.
